New recruitment circular in Ministry of Railways At a Glance
Bangladesh Railways is a major transport company of the country publicly owned and operate by the government. Bangladesh Railway has a total of 2955.53 km of routes across the country with a total of 25083 regular employees according to official estimates. Since railway is a very important land transport system of Bangladesh to connect one end of the country with another, the overall development of railways plays an important role in the economic development of Bangladesh.
Until June 2, 1982, the management and development of railways was entrust to the Railway Board with a chairman and a total of four members. Then for the convenience of administration and operations, the abolition of the Railway Board took effect on 03 June 1982 and the activities of the Railway Board were entrust to the Railway Division of the Bangladesh Ministry of Communications and the Secretary of the said Division served as the Director General of Bangladesh Railways. For the same purpose, Bangladesh Railway is divide into two regions, East and West, under the administrative control of two General Managers who have this responsibility for smooth management.
Two General Managers of these two regions are responsible to the Director General of Bangladesh Railway as per rules. Then later on 12th August 1995 the day-to-day operations of Railways were separate from the Ministry and entrusted to the Director General with Railway Professionals. Then Bangladesh Railway Authority (BRA) was form with a total of 09 members as the chairman of the Minister of the Ministry of Communications to set the policy. As per rules Additional Director General of Railways and Joint Director General of Railways complete all administrative and policy making work for development.
