OVERVIEW of Bangladesh Land Port Authority

Bangladesh Land Port Authority came into being under Bangladesh Sthoala Bandar Kartypakkha Act- 2001 (Act 20 of 2001) to facilitate and increase import and export between neighbouring countries and Bangladesh. From at first, Bangladesh Land Port Authority has been functioning under the Ministry of Shipping. At last 23 Land Customs Stations have been declare as Land Ports. Of the declared land ports, 5 namely Bhomra, Benapole, Burimari, Akhaura and Nakugaon are being operat by own management of BLPA. Also, Sonamosjid, Teknaf, Hili, Banglabandhha and Bibirbajar Land Ports are being operat by Private Port Operators on BOT( Build, Operate and Transfer ) basis.

A qualified private port operator has also been appoint for management and development Birol Land Port. The development of the remaining 12 land ports (Darshona, Tamabil, Belonia, Gobracura Koroytoli, Ramgarh, Chilahaty, Sonahut, Tagamukh, Daulatganj, Dhanuaa Kamalpur and Sheola, Balla) is under process. Total number of approved manpower for Bangladesh Land Port Authority is 315.

• Development of structures, efficient cargo handling, improvement of storage facilities,Encouraging public-private partnerships for effective and improved service delivery.

Activities of Bangladesh Land Port Authority

(1) To formulate policies for the development, management, expansion, operation and maintenance of land ports;
(2) employing operators to maintain, receive and dispatch cargo;
(3) Preparation of schedule of duties, tolls, rates and fees for port users
Government approval;
(4) Entering into contracts with persons to carry out the purposes of the Act.
(5) Exchange of views and liaison with the country concerned with land ports and
Expanding trade through infrastructure development as well as cooperation between organizations;
